Punjab Health Department Buys Large Number of Air Conditioners from Favoured Private Company

Sources within the department revealed that the deal, worth millions of rupees, was finalized without a proper tendering process, raising serious concerns about favoritism and misuse of public funds. Despite the availability of more affordable and reliable alternatives in the market, officials allegedly chose a company with which they had prior connections.
What’s even more alarming is that this large-scale procurement was carried out at a time when many public hospitals in Punjab are struggling with a shortage of basic medical supplies and life-saving drugs.
Insiders have described the purchase as a “behind-the-scenes deal to benefit a specific supplier,” while transparency advocates are calling for a full-scale investigation. The lack of any official statement from the Health Department has further fueled speculation and public outrage.
Civil society organizations and health sector watchdogs have demanded immediate accountability, urging the provincial government to audit the procurement process and take strict action against any officials found involved in irregularities.
