For the First Time in Pakistan: Newborn Digitally Registered at Birth

In a landmark move, Pakistan has digitally registered a newborn at the exact time of birth for the first time in its history.

The digital entry took place at a government hospital in Islamabad, where the newborn’s details — including name, parentage, date, and time of birth — were immediately recorded in the national digital database using an automated system.

This development is part of a new digital registration initiative launched by NADRA in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, aiming to streamline birth records and eliminate delays, errors, and manual paperwork.

Officials say the system will soon be expanded to hospitals nationwide, ensuring every child receives a secure digital identity from birth.

The Interior Minister praised the initiative, calling it “a step toward modern governance and citizens’ rights,” aligning with Pakistan’s goals under international development frameworks.
